Used Curriculum Sale

Seller Information

ALL SELLERS MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE OF BRINGING THEIR ITEMS TO BE SOLD.  Registration is available only online at the Seller Registration link.  If you do not have online access please ask a friend or use your local library.  If there are still problems, call Julie Caprera (508) 764-7647.  Registration deadline is Monday, June 22, 2009.

After your registration is received you will receive a confirmation notice from Julie Caprera by e-mail.  You will then receive the tags and directions for preparing your items for sale.  If you have not had a reply within 48 hours please contact her to be sure your registration went through.  There are 4 new categories which have been added this year.  The directions have been totally revised to help you as much as possible.  While the directions may seem overly strict, every portion has a reason behind it!  We really want to help you have as much success as possible, and this is what has proven to be successful year after year.

When registering to sell items all sellers must make an appointment time to drop off their items.  Our goal is to help each seller maximize their sale opportunities.  Therefore all items are checked individually to make sure they are properly labeled before they are accepted for sale.  Please allow sufficient time (30-45 minutes) for this when you make your appointment.  You will be given opportunity to correct any problems or will be asked to bring the items home.  Improperly labeled items have required many hours of volunteer time for correction and we can no longer do this.  You may bring items for another person, but you will be expected to wait for all their items to be checked also.

The main reasons for items not being accepted are the following:
  1. Handwritten tags — 6 different people must agree on essential info such as name and price (need all new computer generated tags);
  2. Tags taped at top and bottom instead of down the sides — tags catch on other books and tear off making item unsellable (tags must be taken off and retaped correctly);
  3. Items taped on all 4 sides — massive log-jam in check out lines result as tags taped on all 4 sides are hard to remove (tags must be removed and re-taped correctly);
  4. Items without duplicate tags — item will be unsellable if outside tag comes off and won't be able to be returned to owner (duplicate tag must be added);
  5. Items not secured with enough rubber bands to withstand the sale crowd (strong rubber bands added).

MassHOPE uses donated unsold items to provide free curriculum for families who start homeschooling on an emergency basis during the next year.  Remaining unsold items are placed on the free table the following year.  Sellers must decide when they register if they will donate or collect their unsold items.

MassHOPE provides the envelopes and stamps for mailing of tags of sold items and payment to each seller.  A small shipping and handling fee ($2-5) will be deducted from each person's sale payment.  There is no charge if no items are sold.

Sellers who have their drop off appointments on Thursday and Friday donate 15% of their total sales to MassHOPE to help defray the costs of running the sale. Sellers who have their drop off appointment on Saturday morning (4 appointments maximum) will donate 20% of their total sales.  MassHOPE runs the sale as a service and does not make a profit but we do try and break even.

If you are bringing in another seller's items, or you are selling a large number of items, you are asked to please make your appointment on Thursday so we can best utilize our volunteers.

Appointment times for checking in your items for sale at LaSalle Hall at Notre Dame Church, Southbridge, MA.

  • Thursday, June 25 from 2pm to 8pm (last appointment is 7:30pm)
  • Friday, June 26 from 10am to noon (last appointment is 11:20 am)
Pick-up for unsold items will be at LaSalle Hall on Saturday, June 27from 2-3 pm.  To prevent mix-ups, no one may pick up unsold items early, or before all items are sorted.  To help reduce items going to wrong "homes" sellers will be asked to check out when collecting their unsold items.  This has greatly reduced mistakes in sorting.  Many sellers help volunteer to facilitate the sorting process.  Truly many hands help lighten the workload and speed up check out!

Any books not picked up by Saturday at 3pm will be donated to  MassHOPE.  You will be asked when you check in your items who will be collecting them.  Please arrange for someone else to pick up your unsold items if you are unable to do so.

For questions and further information contact Julie Caprera at (508) 764-7647 or masshopeucs2009@gmail.com.  If you get an answering machine please leave a message being sure to slowly spell your name.
